Horizon Scans

While at Noblis, my colleagues and I conducted two “Horizon Scans,” identifying and assessing the technical, institutional, commercial, and environmental trends that might positively or negatively affect ITS deployment over the long term. The purpose of the studies were to help the ITS JPO understand the range of opportunities and threats that may warrant further investigation as part of the Federal ITS research programs. Early identification of these trends and assessment of their impacts enabled the ITS program to proactively develop strategies for influencing these developments, mitigating their negative impacts, and maximizing their positive impacts. the report on the first scan, conducted in 2012 and published in 2013, ITS Horizon Scan: The Societal, Technical, and Environmental Trends That Will Influence ITS Research and Deployment, is available as a public report.
